New Fashion Trends
Fashion professionals will tell you that fashion is a serious business. So why are so many of the latest fashion trends just plain fun? At Fashion TV and www.ftv.com, we've discovered that many new fashion trends are lighthearted and hip. Haute couture may be rife with drama, but some new fashion trends are more silly than smoldering.
Take the current trend toward bold prints and cheerful patterns. From '80s style geometrics to psychedelic swirls to African exotics, fabulous prints are everywhere. Our favorites include Valentino's fresh treatment of roses (often such a poorly executed inspiration, at last rendered with Valentino's exquisite good taste), as well as Christian Lacroix's inspired ethnic prints.
For some reason, prints seem to work fantastically well with ruched or puffed sleeves--a trend that both Lacroix and Daryl K have riffed on in recent collections. Daryl K's wildly printed, belted bell-sleeve dress manages to be simultaneously restrained and vibrant. It's a look that would work well on many different types of women.
Another new fashion trend that has been driving audiences wild is the kimono. Paco Rabanne offered a highly modern take on this traditional Japanese garb (Patrick Robinson's deconstructed vintage pieces), while Rick Owens unleashed highly wearable kimono-style jackets. Dries Van Noten married the two trends by playing with bold, beautiful, Japanese style prints.
