Latest Fashion Trends
Fashion TV and www.ftv.com lets you see the latest fashion trends come to life. With our archives of video on demand (VOD) clips, you can also trace these current trends back to their origins--often two or three seasons in the past. Trends have a way of taking hold, then morphing and modifying as the seasons roll by.
Femininity has reigned supreme in women's clothing for the past several seasons, and each new season brings its own modification to the prim, the pretty, the genteel, and the demure. The shrunken jackets of 2004 have turned into the eyelets and innocence of Spring 2006. Everyone seemed to have a take on this deliciously demure trend.
We love Lagerfeld's laser-cut (yes, laser cut!) doily patterns, and we adore Tao Kurihara's inventive yet restrained use of handkerchiefs. It's nice to see a fading staple--the humble, old-fashioned hankie--transformed into the highest of high fashion.
Like a diverging country road, trends have a way of branching in two, so that the latest fashion trend is as likely to be a reaction to other current trends as it is to be a riff on the style. This season's road less traveled may well be the pantsuit and the shirt dress. After so many seasons of girly-girl fashions, it's inevitable that a number of top designers would simultaneously launch a bit of yang to counter all that yin. Look for fantastic, very now pantsuits from Balenciaga, Ralph Lauren, and Stefano Pilati, as well as sexy shirt dresses from designers like Stella McCartney.
